By market, Hong Kong's VNB increased to US$1.168 billion, up 10% on both fixed and actual exchange rate bases. China's VNB rose to US$937 million, up 20% on a fixed exchange rate basis and 26% on an actual exchange rate basis.
In the first half, the group returned US$3.6 billion to shareholders through dividends and share buybacks.
