Anthropic Product Designer's Side Project Claude Design Goes Official, Surpasses 1 Million Users in First Week
Anthropic product designer Nate Parrott's side project Claude Design, a visual communication tool, has been officially adopted as a product. It surpassed 1 million users in its first week. The tool exports PDF, PPTX, HTML and integrates with Canva, Adobe, Gamma, and others. It is not an image generation model and requires users to import their own logos and brand assets.
Nate Parrott, a product designer at Anthropic, is the only designer on the Claude Code team, which also includes two engineers. On November 24, 2025, Opus 4.5 was released. After that, the two engineers' delivery pace notably accelerated and output increased, while Parrott's design output volume remained unchanged.
Parrott used spare time to develop a side project. He had Claude generate HTML as an interactive visual medium, and wrapped it with a left-side chat and right-side live preview. He incorporated Anthropic brand fonts, colors, materials, and design principles into the prompts. This internal prototype was used by the team's product designers to create interactive prototypes.
On January 13, 2026, Anthropic announced the expansion of Labs, led by Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger and Ben Mann. Claude Design received official resources from the side project and transitioned into a product. The product is positioned as an early-stage visual communication tool for slides, landing pages, PDFs, emails, animations, social media images, and more. It can export PDF, PPTX, and HTML, and connect to Canva, Adobe, Gamma, Miro, Replit, Vercel, Wix, and other tools. It is not an image generation model and is not suitable for creating logos; users must import their own existing logos, images, and brand materials. The product surpassed 1 million users in its first week after launch.
