Apple Keeps @iCloud.com for Hide My Email, Moves Sign in with Apple to @private.icloud.com
Apple has revised plans to consolidate the email domains used by its Sign in with Apple and iCloud+ Hide My Email services. Following user feedback, Hide My Email will retain the @iCloud. com domain to reduce the risk of being blocked, while Sign in with Apple will adopt @private. icloud. com, replacing @privaterelay. appleid. com. Third-party platforms need to whitelist the new domain to prevent registration disruptions from anti-spam measures.
Apple has amended its previously announced plan to change the email domains used by Sign in with Apple and Hide My Email. The original proposal would have moved random addresses generated by both features to @private. icloud. com, covering addresses created when users sign in with an Apple ID or set up iCloud+ hidden emails. The change was designed to refresh Apple's privacy email system, but drew feedback and discussion from professional users before rollout.
By contrast, the existing @iCloud. com domain is used by a sufficiently large user base that platforms would find it difficult to block outright, so it will not affect normal usage.
In its latest message to the developer community, Apple confirmed a partial revision to the plan. The iCloud+ Hide My Email feature will continue generating addresses under @iCloud. com, reducing the risk of those addresses being blocked by other platforms. Addresses generated by Sign in with Apple will adopt @private. com, replacing the previous @privaterelay. appleid. com domain. Affected platforms and service providers must add the new domain to their whitelists to prevent anti-spam filters from disrupting user registration.
