Several core Apple services suffered an unexpected outage on August 18, temporarily preventing many developers and users from syncing data to iCloud. Users were unable to upload and synchronise data from their iPhones or iPads to iCloud, and other features dependent on the cloud service were also affected. According to Apple's system status page, starting at approximately 3:30 p. m. Eastern Time, a large number of users reported anomalies with iCloud and related functions, with the impact spanning contacts, calendar and photo syncing, as well as iCloud Mail and iWork for iCloud.

In addition to the cloud syncing disruption, Apple's Game Center also experienced operational problems, with iOS and macOS players encountering difficulties syncing game achievements and scores. The Find My feature, which helps users locate their linked devices, was also on the list of affected services, making it hard for users to pinpoint their iPhones, iPads, or Macs during the interruption. Developers relying on the Apple News API and news publishing tools also reported access issues.

Apple's developer-facing Xcode Cloud service was not spared either. Apple confirmed that the outage for this service began at 3:59 p. Eastern Time, and the relevant team intervened urgently. During this period, other Apple services such as the iOS App Store continued to operate normally and were unaffected by the incident.

Following repair efforts, key services including iCloud, Game Center, and Find My were restored to normal operation at 5:38 p. Eastern Time. As of the latest status update at 6:15 p. that day, the network issues affecting iCloud and Game Center had been fully resolved. Apple has not yet disclosed the specific cause of this widespread service interruption.
