Apple's Foldable iPhone Rumored as iPhone Duo, Following Ultra and Fold Speculation
Apple's foldable iPhone has surfaced under a new rumored name, iPhone Duo, though no evidence confirms it. The device has also been called iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold. Apple previously used the Duo brand for PowerBook Duo laptops and MagSafe Duo chargers, while Microsoft's Surface Duo and Intel's Core Duo processors also carried the name.
A new rumored name for Apple's foldable iPhone has emerged: iPhone Duo. In external speculation, the device has often been referred to as iPhone Ultra or iPhone Fold, but there is currently no concrete evidence that Apple will adopt the iPhone Duo moniker.
Apple has used the Duo brand before, including the PowerBook Duo series of laptops in the 1990s and the MagSafe Duo charger introduced in the early 2020s. Here, Duo would reference the foldable iPhone's dual-screen design. Microsoft launched the Surface Duo, a dual-screen Android phone, in 2020; that model has since been discontinued. Intel also used the name for its Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors in the 2000s.
Other competitors have similarly employed the Ultra and Fold names, such as Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold8. In April, the foldable iPhone was reported to be named iPhone Ultra, and many Apple employees internally refer to the device by that name. Apple has already applied the Ultra branding to the Apple Watch Ultra, CarPlay Ultra, and its M1 Ultra, M2 Ultra, M3 Ultra, and M5 Ultra chips.
