ASUS Unveils ROG Rapture GT-BN98, World's First Wi-Fi 8 Gaming Router with 25,000 Mbps

ASUS launched the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 at Gamescom 2026, positioning it as the world's first Wi-Fi 8 gaming router. The device adopts a quad-band Wi-Fi 8 architecture based on the still-draft 802.11 billion standard, and features eight external antennas, with a design that continues the ROG series' gaming aesthetic.

On the hardware side, the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 is powered by a quad-core processor running at 2.6 GHz, with 256MB of flash memory and 2GB of RAM. Its rated total wireless throughput reaches up to 25,000 Mbps, with the 2.4 GHz band offering a maximum of 1,376 Mbps, each of the two 5 GHz bands reaching 5,764 Mbps, and the 6 GHz band providing up to 11,529 Mbps, supporting 320 MHz ultra-wide channels. Wired connectivity includes one 10G WAN/LAN combo port, one 10G LAN port, one 2.5G WAN/LAN combo port, three 2.5G LAN ports, and one gigabit LAN port, along with USB 3.2 Gen 1 and USB 2.0 ports. The device supports multiple operating modes including router, AiMesh node, access point, repeater, and media bridge, making it adaptable to networks of various sizes.

On the software front, ASUS has added Adaptive QoE technology to the ROG Rapture GT-BN98, which dynamically allocates bandwidth based on real-time network conditions. The Wi-Fi Insight feature continuously monitors each wireless band and performs background interference detection. For online gaming, the router integrates third-party GTNet services to select more reliable paths for game data traffic to game servers. For security and network management, it comes with AiProtection, which includes ad and tracker blocking. The Guest Network Pro feature allows up to five SSIDs for IoT device isolation, VPN connections, and parental controls. ASUS has not yet announced the release date or pricing for the ROG Rapture GT-BN98.
