Berkshire Holds 0.04% of SpaceX Indirectly Through Alphabet, Worth Over $800 Million
Berkshire Hathaway indirectly held about 0.04% of SpaceX as of June 30, 2026, valued at more than $800 million, through its stake in Alphabet. The holding reflects Berkshire's roughly 0.9% position in Alphabet, which in turn owns about 4% of SpaceX. The indirect stake was worth approximately $815 million at the end of June but has since fallen to near $700 million following declines in both companies' shares. The arrangement, which Elon Musk has long sought, uses the 'look-through' ownership method coined by Warren Buffett.
Elon Musk has for years wanted Warren Buffett as a shareholder in his companies. As of June 30, 2026, Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway indirectly held about 0.04% of SpaceX, valued at more than $800 million. The holding was achieved through 'look-through' ownership, a term coined by Buffett himself.
Berkshire Hathaway reported in its second-quarter portfolio update released last Friday that it held about 0.9% of Alphabet, valued at approximately $38 billion. Alphabet disclosed in its portfolio filing that it held about 4% of SpaceX, valued at approximately $94 billion, as of June 30, 2026. On that basis, Berkshire's proportional indirect stake in SpaceX through its Alphabet holding amounts to about 0.04%.
As of the end of June, the value of Berkshire's corresponding position in Alphabet's SpaceX stake was approximately $815 million. Because both Alphabet and SpaceX shares declined during the quarter, that value had fallen to near $700 million by Tuesday's close.
