During the period, net operating income before impairment provisions amounted to HK$39.903 billion, down 0.58% year-on-year, with net interest margin at 1.48%. Return on average shareholders' equity and return on average total assets were 13.18% and 1.08%, respectively. The total capital ratio was 25.71%, while both the Tier 1 capital ratio and the Common Equity Tier 1 capital ratio stood at 23.8%.
For the first half of 2026, net interest income rose 12.19% year-on-year to HK$28.182 billion, while net fee and commission income declined 5.8% to HK$5.979 billion.
The board approved a three-year shareholder return plan for 2026-2028, which includes a gradual increase in the regular payout ratio within the established dividend range and an additional shareholder return of no less than HK$10.5 billion over the three-year period. For 2026, the company will pay a special dividend of HK$0.2388 per share under this plan.
