Boeing Unveils Ultra-Low-Cost Radar Seeker ULCS at 2026 Symposium

This summer, Boeing conducted multiple tests. Engineers evaluated the sensor design in an anechoic chamber, which absorbs stray signal reflections. The seeker was also carried aboard a Beechcraft 1900 aircraft on flights over land and sea, where it successfully acquired and tracked targets. At Spaceport America in New Mexico, the seeker tracked an overflying drone from a fixed ground position. Boeing then mounted it on a rocket simulating a missile, which was launched to track a second drone fitted with a reflector that returned the radar signal as a full-size target. The seeker survived the acceleration and vibration of these trials and successfully detected and tracked targets in each test.
Boeing said cross-weapon reuse is its primary selling point, with the aim of sharing a common sensor architecture. Further flight tests are planned for 2027 to approach more realistic scenarios. Lockheed Martin announced a similar modular sensor product, Strigo, on August 10, based on the same modular premise. Boeing did not disclose funding for the ULCS or its specific cost.
