ByteDance Ltd. has attracted more than $30 billion in commitments for its massive syndicated loan. The facility, launched in July 2026 with an initial size of $20 billion, includes an upsizing option, although the company has not yet made a decision on exercising it. The loan will be used primarily for general corporate purposes, with a three-year term and an option to extend to five years. This is ByteDance's largest overseas borrowing to date.
The loan is divided into three subscription tiers: lead arrangers and bookrunners must commit at least $1 billion, lead arrangers a minimum of $500 million, and other lead arrangers may commit below $500 million. Citigroup and JPMorgan are serving as coordinators for the facility, with a commitment deadline of August 19. A ByteDance spokesperson declined to comment, while Citigroup and JPMorgan also declined to comment.
ByteDance is stepping up investment in artificial intelligence, planning to raise 2026 capital expenditure to $70 billion — more than double the 2025 total — for the expansion of data centers and other AI infrastructure. The company has also discussed increasing capital expenditure to $100 billion in 2027.
Across the broader technology sector, Amazon. com Inc. , Alphabet Inc. , Microsoft Corp. and Meta Platforms Inc. plan to invest up to $725 billion in capital in 2026, focused mainly on AI data center equipment. ByteDance's previous foray into the global loan market was in 2024, when it raised $10.8 billion from more than 20 lenders.
