Cainiao Launches Global 3-Day Delivery Service, Cutting Europe-Bound Costs 58%

On August 5, Cainiao unveiled its "Global 3-Day Delivery" cross-border logistics product. The service covers 15 core cross-border routes, including China-to-Europe, intra-Pan-European, and intra-Middle East corridors, achieving door-to-door delivery within three calendar days of consumer ordering. On a like-for-like cost basis for a 0.5-kilogram European small parcel, the per-parcel logistics fee for the 3-day express lane is approximately half that of standard international express. Previously, comparable delivery speed was available only through premium-priced international couriers; this launch at roughly half the price marks a first in the global cross-border e-commerce logistics sector.

Cainiao has progressively upgraded its cross-border delivery timelines, introducing "Global 10-Day Delivery" in 2020, upgrading to "Global 5-Day Delivery" in 2023, and now launching "Global 3-Day Delivery" in 2026. The service relies on a fully self-operated fulfillment network built over nearly a decade of sustained investment, supported by an AI-driven digital operations system. The cross-border logistics chain comprises four key nodes—domestic first-mile, trunk transport, overseas customs clearance, and last-mile delivery—which Cainiao integrates into a unified scheduling system through full-chain self-operation and resource consolidation, enabling parcels to run on a single data chain from pickup to signature.

In operational terms, Cainiao operates approximately 170 cargo flights and block-space agreements per week, plus more than 2,300 trucking routes, leveraging overseas eHubs and intelligent customs clearance capabilities across over 100 ports. In fiscal year 2024, Cainiao processed an average of more than 5 million cross-border and international parcels daily. Industry data indicates that logistics and warehousing costs account for 15% to 20% of total operating costs for cross-border e-commerce businesses, second only to core product costs. Cainiao disclosed that for a 500-gram Europe-bound parcel, the standard international express and Cainiao's 3-day product offer the same delivery speed—both guaranteed within 72 hours—but Cainiao's logistics cost is 58% lower. For Pan-European products, Cainiao guarantees delivery within three days, while comparable services take three to four days or longer, and participating merchants see logistics spending reduced by more than 20%, with 24-hour online customer service, full-chain tracking, and compensation protection included.

Cainiao's global cross-border logistics network now covers more than 200 countries and regions, with 18 overseas sorting centers. In Europe, it operates four major sorting centers, connects to 108 trunk routes, runs self-operated delivery networks in core countries, and partners with over 60 local service providers. Multiple overseas eHubs have been established in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, and other locations, while a UK "customs-warehouse integrated" port warehouse enables last-mile delivery within as little as 24 hours after arrival. In the Middle East, a 3-day delivery network among the six Gulf Cooperation Council states is operational. In 2026, Cainiao plans to build large-scale robotic warehousing networks in key markets such as Europe and the United States. On the technology front, more than 60% of parcels at sorting centers are handled by multimodal AI assistants, with AI deeply involved in trunk route allocation, intelligent customs declaration, and last-mile selection. The UK "late-delivery compensation" service was extended to the United States and mainland Europe in 2026.
