Cathay Group H1 net profit rises 71% to HK$6.243 billion; plans HK$150 billion investment for 150 new aircraft

Cathay Group announced its interim results for 2026. In the first half of 2026, the group carried 16 million passengers, an average of about 88,400 per day, up 17.5% year on year. Mainland China was a popular travel destination for Hong Kong residents during holidays in the period. Net profit for Cathay Group (including the airline, subsidiaries and associated companies) reached HK$6.243 billion, up 71% year on year.

Cathay Group plans to invest about HK$150 billion in its fleet, cabin products, airport lounges and digital innovation. Over the next decade, subject to market conditions, the group intends to take delivery of 150 new aircraft and expand its network to 150 destinations.

In cabin products, Cathay Pacific continues to upgrade its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, installing the new Aria business class, a new premium economy cabin and a refreshed economy cabin. By the end of 2026, the Airbus A330-300 fleet will introduce the new Aerie business class and a new economy cabin. Additionally, Cathay Pacific has reduced the number of economy seats on its Airbus A321neo aircraft to provide more generous legroom.

In cargo operations, Cathay Cargo has increased its total order for Airbus A350F freighters to eight aircraft, and has leased one Airbus A330P2F converted freighter for Hong Kong Air Cargo Carrier Limited to operate Cathay Cargo freighter services.
