CATL Plans RMB 1.4 Billion Lithium Carbonate Plant in Ya'an

The Ya'an Economic and Technological Development Zone Administrative Committee has published the first environmental impact assessment notice for a lithium salt production base planned by CATL. The project carries total investment of RMB 1.4 billion and is designed to produce approximately 40,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate, 30,000 tonnes of lithium dihydrogen phosphate and 130,000 tonnes of anhydrous sodium sulphate a year. It covers about 350 mu, with main floor area of roughly 130,000 square metres.

On 14 September 2026, the Administrative Committee of the Ya'an Economic and Technological Development Zone published the first public notice of environmental impact assessment information for CATL's Ya'an lithium salt production base project.

The project involves total investment of RMB 1.4 billion. It is intended to include production plants and ancillary supporting facilities for approximately 40,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate, 30,000 tonnes of lithium dihydrogen phosphate and 130,000 tonnes of anhydrous sodium sulphate.

The project covers an area of about 350 mu, with main floor area of approximately 130,000 square metres. Manufacturing equipment and supporting equipment for lithium carbonate and lithium dihydrogen phosphate production would also be purchased.

The notice currently issued is the first public disclosure of environmental impact assessment information, and the project remains at the preliminary stage of environmental assessment information disclosure.
