China Gold Group Gold Jewellery Co. , Ltd. held its first media open day in Beijing on August 8, showcasing traceable investment gold bars that employ laser-engraved micro QR codes for end-to-end provenance. The product, launched in May 2026 and developed with the National Gold & Silver Products Inspection and Testing Centre (Nanjing), allows consumers to scan and verify origin and quality. Amid 28.42% year-on-year growth in gold bar and coin demand in the first half of 2026, the bars are priced the same as ordinary bars.
On August 8, China Gold held its first media open day in Beijing. The event was hosted by China Gold Group Gold Jewellery Co. , Ltd. and showcased the technical core and full quality-control process of its traceable investment gold bars. These bars, launched in May 2026 at the "China Brand Day" event, were developed jointly by the company and the National Gold & Silver Products Inspection and Testing Centre (Nanjing). They use laser engraving technology to imprint a micro QR code directly onto the bar's surface. Consumers can scan the code with their smartphones to view quality-inspection information such as origin and specifications.
The traceability system for the bars covers inspection and testing at raw-material, finished-product, and terminal-product stages. Upstream, standard gold ingots are batch-sampled and tested; after purity verification, source data are generated. At the finished-product stage, samples are taken based on the raw-material data chain, and the test results are combined with producer information and the bar's serial number to generate a QR code, which is then encrypted for anti-counterfeiting and engraved onto the bar surface via cold laser. Once the QR code is generated, the corresponding image data are immediately stored in the server database; any modification or change to the original information cannot be regenerated, and the anti-counterfeiting verification process alerts users to non-genuine products. Engraving takes less than 5 seconds per bar, and the material loss for a 6mm code does not exceed 0.0002 grams, leaving the bar's stated weight unchanged.
China Gold Association data released earlier show that in the first half of 2026, while gold jewellery consumption remained under pressure, demand for gold bars and coins grew 28.42% year-on-year, as market requirements for quality standards, anti-counterfeiting technology, and service experience continued to rise. The traceable bars are priced the same as ordinary bars and are available at physical stores and through the China Gold app, with convenient repurchase channels.
