CNNC Completes ITER Glow Discharge Design Review, Wins Boronization and Gas Supply Contract

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

The Southwest Institute of Physics of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has completed the final supplement design review for the permanent electrode project of the ITER Glow Discharge Cleaning system. In a separate move, the team, together with CNNC 23, won a contract to design and manufacture the boronization system and the gas supply system for the X-ray Crystal Spectrometer, signed in France. The new awards expand the Chinese team's mandate from impurity removal via glow discharge cleaning to include surface pre-treatment through boronization, completing the wall-treatment technical chain that underpins operation of ITER's full-tungsten first wall.

Teams from the Southwest Institute of Physics under China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) have made multiple advances in wall treatment technology for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). The team completed the final Delta Design Review (Delta FDR) for the supplementary design of the permanent electrode project of the Glow Discharge Cleaning (GDC) system, and, leading a joint effort with CNNC 23, won the bid to design and manufacture the boronization system and the gas supply system for the X-ray Crystal Spectrometer (XRCS), with contracts signed in France.

The results extend the Chinese team's scope of work from the original glow discharge cleaning to boronization wall treatment, completing a technical chain spanning from impurity removal to surface pre-treatment. This provides key assurance for the operation of ITER's full-tungsten first wall.
