CLP September Fuel Charge 45.1 Cents; Three-Month Rebate of 8 Cents for Homes Under 900 kWh

Hong Kong's two major power companies have announced their fuel adjustment charges for September. HK Electric's September fuel charge will be 60.7 cents per kWh, up 3.4 cents from August. Due to the deferred effect of the monthly adjustment mechanism, the September charge mainly reflects fuel costs incurred from May to July 2026. Including the basic tariff, the average net electricity bill for September will be 188.6 cents per kWh, up 1.8% from August. To ease the impact of higher bills on residential customers, HK Electric will offer a special subsidy of 8 cents per kWh from August to October to residential customers whose monthly consumption is 450 kWh or less. For a residential customer using 450 kWh per month, after including the basic tariff and deducting the special subsidy, the September bill will rise by HK$15.3 compared with August.

CLP's September fuel charge will be 45.1 cents per kWh, up a marginal 0.1 cent from August, mainly reflecting changes in actual fuel prices over the past three months. CLP also introduced a three-month special fuel rebate of 8 cents per kWh for residential customers with monthly consumption below 900 kWh, bringing the effective fuel charge to 37.1 cents for eligible customers, which is lower than the level in January 2026. For an average household using 450 kWh per month, eligible customers will receive more than HK$100 in total rebates over the three-month period.
