FiberHome Unveils 800G Transoceanic Transmission System and 300mm Optical Fiber Preform

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

FiberHome, a subsidiary of China Information and Communication Technologies Group, released an 800G transoceanic ultra-high-capacity transmission system with a reach of 6,000 kilometers and a single-fiber-pair capacity of 26.4 terabits per second, filling a domestic gap above 200G. The company also introduced a 300mm-diameter, 3.5-meter optical fiber preform capable of drawing about 20,000 kilometers of fiber, compared with 80mm preforms in 2006 that yielded 400 kilometers.

At FiberHome's marine network transmission laboratory, rolls of optical fiber fill the room as researchers move between racks, adjusting equipment and recording data. More than 400 rolls of fiber in the laboratory simulate a transoceanic transmission distance of nearly 10,000 kilometers, used to test data transmission speed, distance and stability. Submarine cables carry 99% of the world's intercontinental communications and data traffic, and the transoceanic transmission solutions generally in use today are mainly based on 400G rates.

In May 2026, the 21st China Optics Valley International Optoelectronics Expo was held. FiberHome, under China Information and Communication Technologies Group, released an 800G transoceanic ultra-high-capacity transmission system with a transmission distance of up to 6,000 kilometers, filling the gap in China's transoceanic transmission field above 200G. In the era of artificial intelligence, large-model training, cloud computing services and cross-regional computing power scheduling require massive data to flow at high speed between different regions. One purpose of developing transoceanic ultra-high-capacity transmission systems is to make data travel faster, farther and more reliably through submarine cables.

The system achieves a single-fiber-pair capacity of 26.4 terabits per second and a spectral efficiency of 5.5 bits per second per hertz, setting a domestic record for systems of its kind. Under these technical conditions, even if a server room is built thousands of kilometers overseas, it can meet the demand for 1 million people to watch ultra-high-definition video simultaneously. In 2026, FiberHome released an optical fiber preform with a diameter of 300 millimeters and a length of 3.5 meters. In 2006, common optical fiber preforms had a diameter of 80 millimeters, and one could only draw 400 kilometers of fiber. A single 300mm-diameter optical fiber preform can draw about 20,000 kilometers of fiber.
