German Antitrust Regulator Ends Apple App Tracking Probe After Consent Changes
Germany's antitrust authority, the Federal Cartel Office, announced that Apple has agreed to modify the rules governing how app developers use personal data from iPhones and iPads for targeted advertising, thereby concluding its multi-year investigation into the company.
Under the commitments, Apple must implement the changes within four months, and the commitments will remain valid for seven years. In addition, third-party app developers will gain greater flexibility to combine the consent requests required by Apple with other data protection consent prompts.
Apple said the changes will apply to nearly all EU countries, and that the company has adjusted the text and design of the consent prompts at the regulator's request.
