GM to Debut New In-Car Infotainment Software on Redesigned Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Pickups in Late
General Motors will introduce a new in-car infotainment experience, first on redesigned Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups in late 2026. The system adds picture-in-picture CarPlay and Android Auto, proactive on-screen controls, and visual upgrades to the hands-free Super Cruise driver-assistance system. GM placed its digital experience business under design rather than software, led by Sebastian Bauer, executive director of human-machine design and a former Apple and Google employee.
General Motors announced it will introduce a new in-car information and entertainment software experience, debuting first on redesigned Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups in late 2026. The new system includes a new user interface, new controls and new software. GM also adjusted its organizational structure, placing the digital experience business under the design department rather than the software department. It is led by Sebastian Bauer, who previously worked at Apple and Google and serves as GM's executive director of human-machine design.
GM designed the system to proactively display relevant control options so drivers do not have to search through multiple layers of screens or menus. Such functions could include opening and closing a garage door or answering a phone call. The system will also bring visual upgrades to GM's Super Cruise advanced driver-assistance system, including displaying objects such as other vehicles or pedestrians on the driver's instrument cluster screen. Super Cruise is a hands-free driving system that previously did not offer a surrounding-environment display like many other brands' vehicles.
Another update concerns how vehicles run Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone-projection systems. Previously these systems occupied the entire screen, making it difficult for drivers to return to other in-car functions; the new system displays them on part of the screen, allowing both systems to run simultaneously as needed. GM's new infotainment system uses a "window-in-window" feature for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2026 U. S. Vehicle Dependability Study ranked infotainment and connectivity features as the least reliable part of the U. auto industry. GM continues to work with Google and Apple to improve the feature.
