Google Assistant to Be Phased Out on Mobile Devices from September 4, 2026, Replaced by Gemini

Google Assistant will be gradually discontinued on mobile devices starting September 4, 2026. After the transition is complete, users will no longer be able to use the voice assistant on their phones or tablets, nor will they be able to manually switch back to the original service.

The scope of this service termination covers Wear OS smartwatches, wireless earbuds, and car systems equipped with Android Auto. Certain vehicle platforms with built-in Google systems from the manufacturer may temporarily retain Assistant services, while Google Home and Google TV devices in the smart home sector are not included in this discontinuation. According to the established arrangement, devices located in regions that support Gemini and with hardware that meets the requirements will be taken over by the next-generation AI assistant. The service was previously scheduled to be shut down in 2025, but the plan was delayed, and the final implementation date has now been confirmed.
