Google Launches AI Learning Tools for Search and Gemini With 3D Simulations

Google announced on August 19, 2026, a suite of new learning tools for its search engine and Gemini app, including AI-generated interactive visual content, 3D simulations, a dedicated student center, and customized practice quizzes. The tools are designed to help students understand and master complex topics, with personalized learning support across different subjects.

In search, students can now generate custom tools and simulations through AI Overviews. For example, searching "pH scale" generates an interactive visual chart explaining basic concepts, and users can ask follow-up questions such as requesting the location of citrus fruits, prompting the system to create a customized interactive experience. Users can also type commands directly into the search box, such as "create a quiz with the most commonly tested vocabulary to prepare for the SAT," and the system will automatically generate interactive practice quizzes covering science, math, humanities, and foreign languages. In the coming weeks, Lens in search will add interactive learning experiences: after photographing a question, AI will explain related concepts, point out potential errors, and provide guidance, while also supporting one-page summaries generated from uploaded PDFs, documents, or slides.

New Gemini app features allow users to initiate multi-step research reports in Gemini Live; after closing the chat window, AI continues working in the background and sends a notification upon completion, with results discussable by voice or through follow-up questions. Gemini replies can now generate functional 3D simulations — for instance, entering "show how DNA works in 3D" produces an interactive DNA structure that can be rotated and zoomed on screen. Gemini also launches a dedicated student center that centralizes study notebooks, flashcard creation, and practice quizzes to systematically support students' learning workflows.
