Google Play Officially Adds Venmo Payment for Apps, Games and Digital Content
Google has added Venmo as a payment option on its Google Play store, enabling users to pay for apps, games, digital content, and subscriptions using their Venmo balance or linked bank accounts and cards. The move adds to existing payment methods such as PayPal and Cash App. In 2025, global consumer spending on iOS and Google Play exceeded US$167 billion, up 10.6% year on year.
Google announced today that Google Play has officially integrated the Venmo payment system. As of today, users can choose Venmo when purchasing games, applications, add-ons, and various digital content.
Users can directly use their Venmo e-wallet balance, or pay via bank accounts and bank cards linked to Venmo, for recurring in-app subscription fees, as well as tips to creators in content-based applications. Users simply go to the "Payment methods" option in account settings to link their Venmo account.
Previously, Google Play already supported PayPal, Cash App, and payment instruments such as American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and JCB in the US market. Outside the US, Google had piloted a model allowing users to pay for digital goods using cash at nearby physical convenience stores.
Data shows that in 2025, global users spent a total of over 167 billion US dollars on in-app purchases across iOS and Google Play, a year-over-year increase of 10.6%.
