Google to Build Three Subsea Cables Connecting Dominican Republic, Panama, Chile, Bermuda and Florida

Google recently announced plans to build three new subsea cable systems in the Americas, establishing direct network interconnections among Chile, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Bermuda, and the US state of Florida. The project is part of Google's regional network infrastructure expansion plan, known as "Americas Connect."
The first cable, named Alisios, will connect the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Chile. On the Pacific side, it links Panama and Chile, while on the Caribbean side, it connects Panama with the Dominican Republic. The Pacific segment forms a loop between Chile and Panama, with a third connection extending from Panama to the US West Coast, serving cloud regions in Chile, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. The Caribbean segment connects to a separate loop leading to the US East Coast, supporting cloud regions in South Carolina and Virginia.
The second cable, Canoa, will be built between the Dominican Republic and Bermuda. Combined with the existing Nuvem and Saur systems, it will establish a direct data transmission route among Latin America, the Caribbean, North America, and Europe. The third cable, OlaLuz, will connect the Dominican Republic with Florida, expanding network bandwidth between the Caribbean and the US East Coast and providing an alternative path.
Google will also add a new branch to the Firmina subsea cable extending to the Dominican Republic, further expanding network coverage into the Caribbean. The construction aims to improve network redundancy and transmission capacity, providing more efficient connectivity for cloud regions across the Americas. Chile plays a key role in the expansion plan, leveraging its existing fiber-optic network and renewable energy resources to become a regional digital hub. Google also supports the Humboldt subsea cable project, which will connect Chile and Australia.
