On the health front, the Pixel Watch 5 uses sensors and machine learning to track blood pressure patterns, alerting users before cardiac strain increases. The feature has been validated against 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitors, and its advanced waveform model is trained on data from 500,000 people and over one billion minutes. Insulin resistance tracking identifies metabolic changes linked to insulin resistance, combining signals such as sleep, heart rate, and physical activity, using a large sensor model for long-term analysis to assess the risk of diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Google will provide users with a monthly summary of blood pressure and insulin resistance trends.
For sleep and fitness, the Pixel Watch 5 improves sleep stage tracking accuracy by 15%, adds a "Smart Wake" feature that wakes users at the optimal point in their sleep cycle, and includes a new night watch face that reduces nighttime disturbances, along with per-minute blood oxygen variation monitoring. GPS route tracking precision is the highest yet, with map-mapping accuracy doubled compared to the previous generation.
On hardware, the watch is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform, with CPU performance up by 12%, memory increased by 50%, and overall speed improved by 20%. Battery life extends up to 40 hours. Available in hues such as Fog Gray and Olive Green, the 41mm version starts at $399, while the 44mm version starts at $429. Pre-orders begin on Wednesday, and the watch will officially go on sale on August 20.
