Hong Kong McDonald's Suspends Shrimp Burgers Preventively; Tests Find No Nitrofuran

Published: Updated: By 24TopNews Editorial Desk

McDonald's Hong Kong has preventively suspended sales of its shrimp burgers after McDonald's Taiwan temporarily halted similar products when imported shrimp patties tested positive for synthetic antibiotics. Despite using different batches and recipes, Hong Kong McDonald's commissioned multiple internationally accredited independent laboratories to conduct repeated tests on shrimp patty samples. The results showed no traces of nitrofuran or its metabolites, confirming compliance with food safety requirements. The company noted that its 'Taste Shrimp Burger' was a limited-time promotional item whose campaign has already concluded.

McDonald's Taiwan earlier sold 'Seafood Fried Shrimp Burger' and 'Seafood Double Fried Shrimp Burger' using imported shrimp patties that tested positive for synthetic antibiotics, and the related products have been temporarily suspended.

In response to McDonald's Taiwan's suspension of shrimp burger products, McDonald's Hong Kong, despite using different batches and recipes of shrimp patties, immediately preventively suspended sales of the related products and proactively commissioned multiple internationally accredited independent third-party testing agencies to conduct multiple rounds of testing on shrimp patty samples. The consolidated results showed that the relevant samples did not test positive for 'nitrofuran' or its metabolites, meeting food safety requirements.

McDonald's Hong Kong also noted that since the 'Taste Shrimp Burger' was a limited-time promotional product, the related promotional campaign has already ended.
