Honor of Kings Suspends Campus Verification Amid Resale of University Status

Tencent's Honor of Kings recently launched a campus system that allowed enrolled students to verify their status via a "Campus Verification" entry on their personal profiles. Successful verification unlocked exclusive campus name cards and a campus verification badge. Shortly after the feature went live, sellers on second-hand platforms began openly offering campus verification services, with prices ranging from several hundred yuan for regular institutions to around 1,000 yuan for prestigious 985 universities. Some sellers also displayed screenshots of academic records from the China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center (CHESICC) as so-called proof.

These proxy verification services require logging into accounts and binding them to another person's real-name academic information, posing risks such as account theft and privacy leaks. In response, Tencent customer service stated that the campus channel and verification feature have officially concluded their testing phase and are temporarily offline. Any future related activities will be announced through in-game notices and official public accounts. Tencent also reminded consumers to obtain game information and benefits solely through its official public account and to avoid transactions on unofficial second-hand platforms to prevent personal information leaks or financial losses.
