HSBC Holdings plans to sell its Australian loan portfolio valued at over A$30 billion (approximately HK$164.6 billion) to Blackstone Group, allowing the private equity firm to enter the Australian home loan market.

Previously, HSBC had planned to sell the portfolio to National Australia Bank or Macquarie Group, but those deals did not materialise. Private equity firms KKR, Apollo Global Management, and Cerberus Capital Management have also expressed interest in the assets.
