Huawei Bids for Egypt AI Computing Centre, Plans 1,408 Ascend 950 Chip Exports

Huawei has entered a tender by the Egyptian government to build a large-scale artificial intelligence computing centre in the country. According to relevant documents, Huawei proposes to export 1,408 of its highest-end Ascend 950 series chips to build an AI training cloud platform, and to supply a further 600 Ascend 950 series chips, or the previous-generation Ascend 910B, for two inference clusters, the computing infrastructure that runs AI models once their training is complete. The documents show that Huawei has proposed completing the infrastructure within 12 months. If the project succeeds, it would be Huawei's first known export of Ascend accelerators in more than a year of efforts.

After learning of Huawei's plan, the US side has begun developing a response. People familiar with the matter said Washington has reached out to companies including NVIDIA, Advanced Micro Devices and Microsoft, hoping to form an American corporate alliance to compete with Huawei's proposal. Microsoft declined to comment; NVIDIA and AMD did not respond.

Huawei declined to comment, and Egypt's Foreign Ministry did not respond to inquiries. China's Foreign Ministry announced on August 26, 2026 that President Xi Jinping will attend the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek and will make state visits to Kyrgyzstan and Egypt at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
