Huayu Auto unit says it still supplies Tesla Model 3 and Model Y suspension springs

On September 17, 2026, a person at Shanghai China Spring Manufacturing Co. , Ltd. , a unit of Huayu Automotive Systems Co. , said the company continues to supply suspension springs, including for models such as the Model 3 and Model Y, with deliveries also made overseas to markets including North America and Germany. In October 2020, Huayu Automotive said publicly that its interiors, seating, lighting, bumpers, battery boxes, body sub-assemblies, stabilizer bars and suspension springs businesses had begun supplying Tesla models. The person confirmed only that the company still supplies suspension springs for Tesla models and mentioned the Model 3 and Model Y, but did not confirm whether the products are fitted to the Model Y L, nor whether the company is a supplier of the Model Y L's rear suspension spring. Huayu Automotive confirmed it remains a supplier to Tesla China, but did not respond clearly on whether its subsidiary is the actual supplier of the Model Y L's rear suspension spring.

According to Huayu Automotive's 2026 interim report, on a consolidated basis including overseas operations, 67.2% of the company's main business revenue came from vehicle customers other than SAIC Motor. Tesla Shanghai, Seres and Xiaomi Auto were among its top ten non-affiliated vehicle customers by domestic revenue share. In the first half of 2026, Huayu Automotive sold 7.94 million suspension springs, up 5.17% year on year.

Some Model Y L owners reported abnormal rear body height and had their rear suspension springs replaced after inspections and repairs at official Tesla service centers. Repair records show the replacement rear suspension spring carries part number 2188477-00-B, while some earlier batches used a part ending in "A." As of now, it remains unclear whether the rear suspension springs used or replaced on Model Y L vehicles are supplied by Shanghai China Spring Manufacturing, and the specific cause of the abnormal rear body height has not been officially disclosed.

The unladen ground clearance figure in the Tesla Model Y L owner's manual has changed. The Model Y L's unladen ground clearance was previously listed as 169mm, while some versions of the owner's manual now show 166mm, a reduction of 3mm. Asked why the owner's manual lists both 169mm and 166mm, customer service did not explain the reason and only asked whether the vehicle had experienced any problems in use.

Tesla's official websites currently show inconsistent unladen ground clearance figures for the Model Y L. The tesla. com version shows 166mm, while the tesla. cn version still shows 169mm. As of September 17, 2026, Tesla China had not issued an official response on the reason for the change in the Model Y L's ground clearance figure or whether the change involves adjustments to vehicle hardware or technical specifications.
