An investor with financial-industry experience and a securities investment advisory qualification has publicly disclosed the performance of his investment accounts over five years. After graduating in 2021, he transferred the balance of his monthly salary, after deducting rent and basic living expenses, into his stock accounts, investing a cumulative 456,700 RMB over five years. Of that, 170,000 RMB went into his A-share account, which is currently down 28,000 RMB with 142,000 RMB remaining. His US stock account received 286,700 RMB, is down 230,000 RMB, and has 55,000 RMB remaining. The two accounts have lost more than 250,000 RMB in total, more than half of his principal.
In mid-2025, after referring to publicly available investment analysis articles, he began buying LexinFintech, starting at USD 6 and adding in batches at USD 5, USD 4, USD 3, USD 2 and USD 1.8 as the share price fell, for an average cost of USD 4.35. After accounting for currency depreciation and ADR custody fees, his actual cost was USD 4.52. He currently holds 10,381 LexinFintech shares. The share price has fallen to USD 0.8, a loss of more than 80%.
LexinFintech's financial data show total assets of 22.3 billion RMB, total liabilities of 10.3 billion RMB, net assets of 12 billion RMB and a loan balance of 93.7 billion RMB. Company founder Xiao Wenjie once increased his stake by USD 20 million at around USD 4 per share, and the company announced a USD 40 million buyback the same year. The investor noted that management had a prior record of dividends and buybacks. The loan-assistance industry in which LexinFintech operates faces a continuously tightening regulatory environment.
The remaining 142,000 RMB in his A-share account has been fully shifted into an ETF-focused allocation. He and his girlfriend have a combined monthly income of about 30,000 RMB and, after expenses, invest about 10,000 RMB a month through a regular investment plan. He is 27 this year.
