JR Central to Introduce Six-Language Auto Translation and Platform Displays for Shinkansen

JR Central announced on the 14th that it will add automatic translation for Tokaido Shinkansen operation information on its official website from the 21st, supporting English, Chinese, Korean, German, French, and Thai. The move aims to serve rising inbound tourism, expanding multilingual coverage beyond the current summary of suspensions. Additionally, diagrams of suspended trains and sections will appear on station platform electronic displays, rolling out from the 21st at non-Nozomi stations and by the end of fiscal 2029 at Nozomi stations.

JR Central announced on the 14th that it will introduce an automatic translation service for Tokaido Shinkansen operation information published on its official website from the 21st. The service will support six languages: English, Chinese, Korean, German, French, and Thai, aiming to accommodate the increase in inbound tourists and allow detailed information to be confirmed in foreign languages.

Previously, multilingual labeling was limited to summaries of suspended sections and reasons for suspensions.

Additionally, JR Central announced that diagrams of suspended trains and sections will be displayed on electronic screens on station platforms. For stations where Nozomi trains do not stop, the introduction will be phased in from the 21st; for stations where Nozomi trains stop, it will be phased in by the end of fiscal 2029.
