Justin Sun, founder of TRON, publicly responded to estimates placing his net worth at $8.5 billion, surpassing the Wang Jianlin family's $4.4 billion. Sun's assets are heavily concentrated in digital currencies, while Wang's are tied to Wanda Group. Wang's fortune has dropped over 90% from its peak of $31.3 billion. His son Wang Sicong has resigned from all director roles at Wanda, retaining only a 2% indirect stake.

On August 7, Justin Sun, founder of TRON, responded on social media to news that his $8.5 billion net worth surpassed the Wang Jianlin family's $4.4 billion. Real-time billionaire list estimates show that Sun's assets are primarily in digital assets, including TRX tokens issued on the TRON public chain, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other ecosystem digital assets, with a high concentration in that sector. The Wang Jianlin family's $4.4 billion wealth mainly corresponds to the equity value of Wanda Group and its stock of commercial real estate assets. Wang Jianlin was crowned China's richest person three times in 2013, 2015, and 2016, with peak personal wealth exceeding RMB 200 billion. In recent years, Wanda's disputed debt totals about RMB 8.062 billion, and its financing debt totals RMB 13.681 billion. Since 2023, Wanda has sold more than 80 malls cumulatively, Wanda Film was acquired by Ruyi Holdings, and Wang Jianlin himself faces judicial risk from personal joint liability guarantees. From his peak fortune of $31.3 billion, Wang Jianlin's wealth has shrunk by more than 90%. As his assets contracted, Wang Jianlin's only son, Wang Sicong, has been gradually stepping down from roles within the Wanda system. On July 27, 2026, he resigned as a director of Wanda Industrial Investment Co. , Ltd. , marking the third time in recent years he has resigned from a director role at a core Wanda entity. With this, Wang Sicong has cleared all director positions within the Wanda system, retaining only a 2% indirect stake held through Dalian Hexing Investment. The public intersection between Justin Sun and Wang Sicong dates back to 2019. That year, Sun bid $4.56 million (about RMB 31.5 million) for a charity lunch with Warren Buffett. In the following months, Wang Sicong fell into a debt crisis after Panda Live collapsed, was listed as a judgment debtor by the court and subject to high-consumption restrictions. Nearly RMB 2 billion invested in Panda Interactive Entertainment was lost entirely, and the Panda Live project alone caused at least RMB 3 billion in potential losses. Sun's path to wealth includes joining Ripple Labs as chief representative for Greater China in 2013, founding TRON in 2017 and raising about $70 million through an initial coin offering. Since then, the TRON public chain ecosystem has expanded, with TRC20-USDT becoming one of the world's most circulated stablecoin standards. He also acquired BitTorrent, invested in cryptocurrency exchange Poloniex, and participated in the restructuring of Huobi.
