Kaiyodo Opens Direct Store in Osaka's Shinsekai to Target Inbound Tourists

Figure manufacturer Kaiyodo (based in Kadoma, Osaka) has opened a direct store, Kaiyodo Hobby Lobby Osaka, in the area commonly known as Shinsekai in Osaka's Naniwa Ward. The store officially opened on July 17, located between Tennoji Zoo and Tsutenkaku Tower in a bustling district lined with kushikatsu restaurants and izakayas. The store displays numerous finely crafted items, aiming to spread the company's modeling culture in the Shinsekai area, which is lively with foreign tourists.

The direct store offers Kaiyodo's latest and classic products, including figures, plastic models, and capsule toys. It also features a space displaying Kaiyodo's history and past works, and regularly holds workshops. On the opening day of July 17, children participated in a workshop painting figures.

Kaiyodo started in 1964 as a small model shop of about 5 square meters in Moriguchi City, and has since grown into a representative Japanese modeling manufacturer, involved in the planning, development, and sales of figures, candy toys, capsule toys, and plastic models. In November 2025, a direct store in Kadoma closed due to the expiration of its lease. While considering locations for a new store in Osaka, the company ultimately decided to open in Shinsekai.
