At D23 2026, Square Enix officially confirmed that Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy will be playable characters in Kingdom Hearts 4. During the Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts panel, the studio debuted a four-minute extended trailer showcasing the trio's independent adventures. While the first trailer had already revealed the world of Pixar's Coco, the extended cut adds further gameplay details.
Mickey's adventure takes place within magic books in the Scala ad Caelum world, which employs a papercraft art style that switches between 2D and 3D. Co-director Tai Yasue said at the panel that the section adopts puzzle-based game design, marking a clear departure from Sora's mainline adventure.
The extended trailer also offered the first look at Donald and Goofy on an independent adventure without Sora, a milestone for a mainline Kingdom Hearts entry. The pair will explore the Land of the Dead from Coco and battle Heartless there. Officials confirmed that the film's antagonist, De la Cruz, will appear in the game, reprised by original voice actor Benjamin Bratt.
