Lam Research to Invest Over $3 Billion to Expand Global R&D Labs

Lam Research announced plans to invest more than $3 billion over the next five years to expand its global network of R&D laboratories, increasing experimental capacity by more than 50%.

The company's R&D strategy combines global specialist laboratories with customer collaboration, with some laboratories located adjacent to client facilities, forming an integrated network operating around the clock. The laboratory network spans the United States, Asia and Europe, supporting more than one million experiments annually. Facilities dedicated to fundamental research can compress experiments that normally take weeks into a matter of days, while process development laboratories advance technologies to the production-ready stage.

Technology centers located near customers support rapid identification and verification. The network enables equipment, data and expertise to be shared across geographies, ensuring that discoveries are quickly translated into knowledge across the entire network. In recent customer collaborations, this strategy has helped shorten process development cycles by up to 2.5 times. Lam Research plans to officially begin the expansion of its global laboratory network in 2026.
