Lenovo's official after-sales service quoted over $800 (about £600) for a full motherboard replacement, nearly matching the laptop's used value. A third-party repair shop instead found a faulty micro-capacitor blocking the power line and bridged it with a short copper wire, restoring normal operation.

A high-end Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro X laptop, equipped with an AMD Ryzen processor and an Nvidia RTX discrete graphics card, developed a fault where the screen would not light up. The owner contacted Lenovo's official after-sales service, which offered only one solution: replacing the entire motherboard, at a cost exceeding $800 (approximately £600). This amount accounts for nearly the entire residual value of the used machine.

The owner then sent the laptop to a third-party repair facility for diagnosis. After a full disassembly and circuit inspection, the technicians found that the motherboard's core chips and power delivery modules were intact. The root cause was a damaged micro-capacitor that interrupted the power supply line. Instead of replacing the capacitor, the repair technician soldered a short piece of copper wire to bridge the circuit. After reassembly and power-on, the laptop's screen lit up normally, and the desktop and all functions were restored. The repair shop did not disclose the specific service fee.
