Li Auto to Equip All Models with Self-Developed Batteries from H2 2026

Li Auto has announced that its self-developed batteries will be installed across all its vehicle models. During the second-quarter earnings call held on August 26, Li Xiang, chairman and chief executive officer of Li Auto, stated that starting in the second half of 2026, the company's self-developed batteries will be gradually adopted across its full vehicle lineup. Currently, the self-developed batteries are already installed in the Li L8, Li L6, and Li i8, and will subsequently be extended to all models.

Li Auto began independent cell research and development in 2020. The core technologies of its self-developed batteries include the complete battery system, comprising 5C cells, battery packs, and battery management systems. The company initiated the development of its Mach chip in 2022 and will continue to advance the iteration of its self-developed chips.

The battery adoption plan for the fourth quarter of 2026 indicates that the first batch of the new Li MEGA will be delivered with CATL 5C ternary lithium batteries. Once production of the self-developed batteries is ready, the vehicle will fully switch to Li Auto's self-developed 5C ternary lithium batteries.

The all-new Li i9, positioned as a new-form family flagship SUV targeting six-seat SUV households, will be officially launched in mid-September. The first batch of the Li i9 will be equipped with CATL 5C ternary lithium batteries, and after the self-developed batteries complete production ramp-up, it will fully switch to Li Auto's self-developed 5C ternary lithium batteries. The company will launch the 2026 Li i6 in the fourth quarter of 2026, which will be equipped with Li Auto's self-developed 5C batteries and the self-developed Mach chip. Reservations will open at the end of September, with deliveries commencing in early November.
