Micron Completes Demonstration of 512GB DDR5 RDIMM Server Memory Module

The module is a DDR5 server memory product with a single-module capacity of 512GB and a maximum transfer rate of 9,200 MT/s. A dual-socket server with 24 memory slots could theoretically be configured with up to 12TB of system memory. The product targets scenarios including artificial intelligence training and inference, in-memory databases, scientific simulation, and virtualization platforms, and can improve data processing capability in memory-constrained analytical workloads.
The module uses vertical interconnect packaging technology, stacking and interconnecting multiple layers of DRAM dies vertically through through-silicon vias (TSVs) to increase storage density within limited packaging space while maintaining the high bandwidth and stable performance required by data center architectures. Micron data shows that a single 512GB module operates at about 16 watts; achieving 512GB of capacity with four 128GB modules would consume about 44 watts in total. At the same 512GB capacity, the single 512GB module reduces operating power by more than 60%.
On performance, for memory-intensive workloads such as Spark support vector machine (SVM) data analysis, the 512GB RDIMM can deliver up to 1.4 times the performance of a 256GB DDR5 configuration. For data platforms that rely heavily on memory, such as RocksDB and Redis, the module can increase throughput and concurrent processing capability and support larger-scale data sets.
AMD and Intel have begun validation work on the 512GB DDR5 RDIMM and are collaborating with Micron on engineering to verify product compatibility and advance subsequent deployment. Data centers, cloud service providers, and artificial intelligence infrastructure operators will then be able to use this high-capacity memory solution to meet computing and data requirements.
