Micron Taiwan Taoyuan Plant Union Plans Strike Briefing on Bonus Inequality

The union at Micron Technology's Taoyuan plant in Taiwan plans to hold strike information sessions for rank-and-file employees to discuss inequitable bonus and dividend policies triggered by the artificial-intelligence boom. Flyers shared online show that the union, responding to grassroots employees' desire to better understand union functions and strike procedures, will hold the sessions in stages over the coming days.

The flyers mention Micron's current individual performance bonus (IPP) cap of 200%, or no more than five months' salary, and ask employees to consider whether this arrangement is reasonable. They also compare Samsung Electronics' previous 50% bonus cap.

In early 2026, Samsung Electronics experienced serious labor unrest over its low dividend payout ratio. Samsung employees, dissatisfied with strong business performance but limited dividends, compared their compensation with that of rival SK Hynix and protested. They demanded the removal of the dividend cap, a bonus equal to 15% of semiconductor business operating profit, and higher base salaries. Ultimately, Samsung management and the union reached an agreement to pay bonuses at 10.5% of operating profit and remove the 50% bonus cap.

Micron's Taiwan union said it has studied the experiences of Samsung and SK Hynix in areas including performance bonuses, distribution disputes, and strike-related rights. It plans to report these findings to employees at the information sessions and discuss next steps in seeking a reasonable share of profits, to ensure that frontline workers' voices are effectively heard by company management.
