Microsoft PowerToys Adds Window Hopper Feature for Windows 10 and 11
Microsoft PowerToys has introduced a new Window Hopper feature for Windows 10 and 11, allowing users to cycle through multiple windows of the same application using Alt+backtick. Unlike Alt+Tab, it shows only windows belonging to the current app in a visual overlay. Originally named AltWindowCycle, the feature is now called Window Hopper and handles independent program windows, not internal tabs. Users can enable it via the Window and Layout settings in PowerToys and customize the shortcut, such as Alt+Caps Lock.
Microsoft PowerToys has added a new "Window Hopper" feature, available on Windows 10 and 11. The feature lets users cycle through multiple independent windows of the same application—such as several browser windows, terminal sessions, or File Explorer windows—by pressing Alt+backtick.
Unlike the system's built-in Alt+Tab shortcut, Window Hopper displays only the windows belonging to the current application, presented in a visual overlay for direct selection. The feature was initially named AltWindowCycle and has since been renamed Window Hopper. It operates on independent program windows rather than tabs within an application.
Users can download and install PowerToys from the Microsoft Store, then enable the feature in the "Window and Layout" settings area. The default shortcut is Alt+backtick, which can be customized to other combinations, such as Alt+Caps Lock, according to personal preference.
