Microsoft to Deliver Final Windows 10 Microsoft 365 Update in 2026, Security Support to 2028

Microsoft has announced it will scale back updates for Microsoft 365 and OneDrive on Windows 10. Microsoft 365 on the Windows 10 platform will receive its final major feature update in August 2026. After that, Office applications will remain usable and continue to receive security maintenance, but no new features will be delivered. Microsoft will release version 2608 of Microsoft 365 in August, covering Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Copilot features, marking the last major feature version for Windows 10. Microsoft has committed to supporting Office applications on Windows 10 until October 10, 2028, but after version 2608 is released, devices will remain on that version and receive only security updates.

For OneDrive, the desktop application on Windows 10 22H2 will continue to receive updates until October 10, 2028, while devices running earlier versions of Windows 10 will no longer be updated. Most Windows 10 users run 22H2, so the impact is limited. Microsoft has not yet clarified whether it will continue to deliver major OneDrive feature updates for Windows 10 in the future.

Market data indicate that about 30 per cent of PCs still run Windows 10, and Windows 10 holds a market share of approximately 17 per cent, with Windows 11 adoption slowing. Microsoft acknowledged that, compared with 2025, the end of Windows 10 support is having a weaker effect on driving Windows 11 sales.
