Microsoft to More Than Triple Data Center Capacity to Over 38 Gigawatts by 2032
Microsoft plans to more than triple its data center capacity. By 2032, the company's data center capacity will rise from about 12 gigawatts at present to more than 38 gigawatts, a scale that would exceed New York State's total electricity consumption at peak demand.
Computing shortages had previously led Microsoft to forgo some artificial intelligence and cloud business, and prompted some customers to move new business elsewhere.
Microsoft is seeking to ease the computing shortage by developing new data centers, including a cluster under construction in the Atlanta area.
