Microsoft Unifies Copilot Apps into Single 'Microsoft Copilot' Super App; Mobile and Desktop Rollouts Set
Microsoft is merging its consumer Copilot app and Microsoft 365 Copilot into one unified 'Microsoft Copilot' super app, featuring a new icon and seamless switching between personal and work accounts. Mobile users will receive the update in mid-August, with a desktop refresh in September. Some Windows Insiders can preview the new app this week. Existing users will retain chat history, while Microsoft 365 Copilot users see refined navigation and enhanced conversation features.
Microsoft has begun integrating its consumer and business Copilot AI assistants, planning to merge the existing Copilot app and Microsoft 365 Copilot into a single new application. The new app will retain the name "Microsoft Copilot" and adopt a new icon, allowing users to switch seamlessly between personal and work accounts. This also resolves the issue of two Copilot icons appearing simultaneously in the Windows taskbar or system tray. In an update statement, Microsoft said the new Copilot combines conversational interaction, image generation, and Microsoft 365 productivity capabilities, laying the technical foundation for the super app to be launched later in 2026.
At that time, mobile users will receive a prompt to download the new Copilot app, and some Windows Insiders preview members will be the first to experience it starting this week.
For existing users, after migrating to the new version, original Microsoft Copilot users will have their chat history and related content preserved. Microsoft 365 Copilot app users will experience a refined navigation layout, a new icon, and more comprehensive Copilot conversation features.
