Musk Says Flying Cars Will Eventually Reach Market; Tesla Roadster Delayed to August 2026
Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk said in a social media post that flying cars will eventually come to market, responding to a post that noted people had expected flying cars but instead got ubiquitous artificial intelligence. Separately, the Tesla Roadster, originally slated for early 2026, has been pushed to August 2026. The supercar's SpaceX option package includes cold-gas thrusters for extreme acceleration and downward-facing thrusters that can briefly lift the car off the ground, theoretically allowing it to clear obstacles. Musk's current focus remains on AI, computing power, and SpaceX's spaceflight program aimed at multi-planetary human survival.

The original post read: "People expected flying cars, but instead we got ubiquitous superintelligent AI." Musk responded: "You will see flying cars." Tesla has previously signaled similar intentions.
Musk had earlier previewed flying and hovering capabilities for the Tesla Roadster. The supercar was originally scheduled to debut in early 2026, but has been postponed to August 2026 and has not yet been officially unveiled.
