Muyuan Foods Says Process Innovation Raised Biological Assets, Plans to Cut Sow Herd Below 3 Million by End of
Muyuan Foods said its recent production process innovation has increased its productive biological assets. The company reported 3.113 million breeding sows as of end-June 2026 and plans to reduce the herd to below 3 million by end-September, a drop of about 600,000 from the 2025 cyclical peak, in line with national production capacity control policies.
Muyuan Foods recently stated on an interactive platform that the company has implemented production process innovations, selecting replacement gilts from the piglet stage and placing them into a replacement herd for health management. This approach replaces and eliminates existing sows to achieve disease purification, improving sow health and production performance. Financially, this initiative has resulted in a certain increase in the company's productive biological assets.
The company is actively responding to the national policy on controlling hog production capacity. As of end-June 2026, Muyuan's breeding sow inventory stood at 3.113 million head, with a plan to reduce it to below 3 million by end-September, approximately 600,000 head lower than the cyclical peak in 2025.
