Nintendo Switch 2 Users Report Bans With Error Code 2124-4508, MIG Switch Card Suspected

Nintendo Switch 2 consoles appear to be facing a new wave of bans. Some players have reported that after connecting their consoles to the internet, they were suddenly restricted from using Nintendo's online services, with error code 2124-4508 appearing. Starting from the evening of September 5, users began posting on social media that their Switch 2 consoles had been banned, preventing them from accessing Nintendo's network services.

One player posted that their Switch 2 was suddenly restricted from using online services that day. The player stated they had not modified the console or games, and owned only three physical games, two of which were purchased new from Carrefour and a local game store. They had not even played online in the past month and had contacted Nintendo Europe customer support for a solution. Other players also reported similar issues, claiming they used legitimate games and new consoles and had never been involved with pirated content.

Some netizens attribute the bans to the MIG Switch flash card. The MIG Switch resembles a standard Switch game cartridge and can read backup data from physical games. A similar situation occurred shortly after the Switch 2's release, with players claiming they were banned for using the MIG Switch to run backups of physical cartridges.

Nintendo's Switch 2 user agreement explicitly states that users must not bypass, modify, or disrupt the protection mechanisms of the console or software, nor use unauthorized hardware or software. The agreement also notes that if users violate these restrictions, or if Nintendo determines or reasonably suspects such violations, the company may take technical measures to restrict access to or use of part or all of the console's or software's functions. As of now, Nintendo has not publicly explained the specific reasons for the latest wave of ban reports that began on September 5.
