Nintendo's 'Super Mario: Galaxy' Passes $1 Billion; Next Film Is 'Legend of Zelda'

The Super Mario Bros. Movie, released in 2023, has grossed $13.6 billion to date and remains the highest-grossing video game adaptation in box office history. The 2026 release Super Mario: Galaxy grossed slightly over $1 billion globally, briefly becoming the year's box office champion but was surpassed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day in less than a week. Nintendo confirmed in the filing that its next big-screen production will be a live-action film based on The Legend of Zelda, directed by Wes Ball.
