Qualcomm Advances AI-Era 6G Research, Targets 2029 Commercial Launch
Qualcomm is advancing 6G research for the AI era, spanning connectivity, computing and sensing. Its connectivity work focuses on new spectrum, wider bandwidth and Giga-MIMO to boost network capacity and uplink performance. On computing, Qualcomm is working with industry partners to extend energy-efficient computing from the cloud to the network edge. For sensing, it uses wide bandwidth for radio sensing fused with cameras and other modalities to build digital twins of the physical world. Nearly 60 companies worldwide, about one-third of them Chinese, have reached consensus on 6G development, preparing for commercial launch in 2029.
Qualcomm is continuing to advance 6G technology research aimed at the AI era, with work spanning connectivity, computing and sensing.
On connectivity, Qualcomm is focusing on new spectrum bands, larger bandwidth and Giga-MIMO to improve network capacity and uplink performance.
On computing, Qualcomm is working with industry partners to extend energy-efficient computing from the cloud further to the network edge, enabling networks themselves to take a greater part in AI computation and intelligent coordination.
On sensing, Qualcomm uses wide bandwidth to enable radio sensing and fuses it with cameras and other modalities to build digital twins of the physical world for applications such as smart cities and autonomous driving.
Qualcomm has reached consensus on 6G development with nearly 60 companies worldwide, about one-third of which are Chinese, jointly advancing 6G technology research and industry coordination to prepare for commercial launch in 2029.
