SAIC Motor's Passenger Vehicle, SAIC-GM, Huayu Automotive Announce Management Reshuffle
SAIC Motor's core subsidiaries disclosed management changes on July 28, 2026. Lu Xiao, former SAIC-GM president, succeeded Wang Jun as SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle president. Xu Ping, former Huayu Automotive president, took over as SAIC-GM president. Tao Hailong, former SAIC Volkswagen president, returned as Huayu Automotive president. In the first half of 2026, SAIC-GM sold 231,200 vehicles, down 5.68% year-on-year, while new energy sales reached nearly 50,000, up 81.1%. SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle sold about 549,000 vehicles, up 49.4%, with new energy sales surging 218.1% to 239,000 units.
Several core subsidiaries of SAIC Motor Corp. disclosed management adjustments on July 28, 2026. SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle announced that Lu Xiao, former president of SAIC General Motors (SAIC-GM), succeeded Wang Jun as its president. Wang Jun will remain as deputy chief economist of SAIC Motor and party secretary of SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle after stepping down. SAIC-GM announced that Xu Ping, former president of Huayu Automotive Systems, took over as its president. Huayu Automotive Systems announced that, upon nomination by the company's chairman, it agreed to appoint Tao Hailong as president. Tao Hailong previously served as party secretary and president of SAIC Volkswagen Automotive Co. As of press time, SAIC Motor had not disclosed information regarding the successor for the SAIC Volkswagen presidency.
According to SAIC Motor's production and sales bulletin, in the first half of 2026, SAIC-GM sold 231,200 vehicles, down 5.68% year-on-year; during the same period, new energy vehicle sales reached nearly 50,000 units, up 81.1% year-on-year. SAIC-GM returned to profitability in the fourth quarter of 2024 and has achieved stable profitability for seven consecutive quarters through the second quarter of 2026. Xu Ping, who succeeded as SAIC-GM president, has worked at SAIC-GM and Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) since 1998, holding positions including deputy director of powertrain, executive director of project management, and executive deputy general manager at PATAC. He became president of Huayu Automotive Systems in July 2024.
In the first half of 2026, SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle sold approximately 549,000 vehicles, up 49.4% year-on-year, of which new energy vehicle sales reached 239,000 units, up 218.1% year-on-year. By brand, MG brand sales were about 486,000 vehicles, up 67.8% year-on-year; Roewe and Feifan brand sales were about 29,000 vehicles, down 63.6% year-on-year. Lu Xiao, who was transferred to the presidency of SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle, joined PATAC in 1997 and served as chief engineer of the mid-size car platform, executive director of project management, and deputy general manager and executive deputy general manager of PATAC. He became president of SAIC-GM in August 2024. During his tenure, SAIC-GM implemented measures such as adjusting the production-sales linkage mechanism and reducing dealer inventory, and launched Buick's high-end new energy sub-brand "Zhijing" in April 2025.
Huayu Automotive Systems' new president Tao Hailong was born in 1968 and has over 30 years of experience in the automotive industry. He worked for a long period in the quality assurance and manufacturing departments of SAIC Volkswagen, then served as executive director of quality assurance and deputy general manager of SAIC Motor's passenger vehicle division, president of Shanghai Automotive Gear Works, and president of Huayu Automotive Systems. In 2024, Tao Hailong stepped down as president of Huayu Automotive Systems to become president of SAIC Volkswagen. From January to June 2026, SAIC Motor sold a cumulative total of 2.045 million vehicles. In the 2026 Fortune Global 500 list, SAIC Motor ranked 125th with consolidated revenue of 91.301 billion U. S. dollars for the 2025 fiscal year.
