Samsung Electronics Retail Shareholders Hit Record 7.97 Million, One in Five Korean Adults
Samsung Electronics' retail shareholder count hit a record 7,971,242 as of end-June 2026, up about 2.92 million from 5,049,085 a year earlier, a 57.8% increase. With South Korea's adult population at roughly 43 million, one in five adults now holds the stock. Financial Supervisory Service data also show retail investors held 66.24% of the company's outstanding shares in the second half of 2025. The shareholder base has grown steadily, doubling in 2021 and surpassing 6 million in September 2022.
As of end-June 2026, the number of retail shareholders in Samsung Electronics reached 7,971,242, a record high. This represents an increase of approximately 2.92 million from 5,049,085 a year earlier. With South Korea's adult population at about 43 million, roughly one in five adults holds Samsung Electronics shares.
Data from the Financial Supervisory Service show that at end-2020, the number of retail shareholders was 2,153,969, rising to 5,066,351 by end-2021, doubling within a year. In September 2022, the count first exceeded 6 million.
In the second half of 2025, retail shareholders collectively held 66.24% of Samsung Electronics' outstanding shares. As of end-June 2026, the number of individual shareholders had grown by approximately 57.8% from the same period in 2025, continuing the upward trend of recent years.
